My name is Brittany Buchanan. I was born into a multi dog household including a GSD, Alaskan Malamute, and a Doberman. Dobermans were a staple, and at one point, Rottweilers. I was raised in Warren County. Immediately upon graudating, my husband brought home multiple coonhounds and rabbit running beagles. From 2009 to present we have averaged a 5 dog household. Together we have raised many great dogs in the last 14 years.
I worked as a veterinary assistant at two separate clinics prior to nursing school and a majority of our dogs received obedience training in various facilities. Our dobies had private training from an amazing trainer who no longer practices and I credit so very much to him. I continue to implement any sources/classes he passed on to me.
During Covid, I returned to the veterinary field part time and have been there the last few years in addition to working as an LPN. But prior to that job change, I received our most recent Doberman, Coe, as what I like to call "my best Christmas gift ever."
Coe has proven to be our most challening dog, but I would not change it. He has led me into a world of dog training and bonding that I did not know existed and it has proven so beneficial to our pack. For the last 16 months I have been reading almost nightly, or watching training videos, about dogs, to further educate myself on how to coexist with them harmoniously, ESPECIALLY since we have two small children.
Since first being a veterinary assistant, I was also fascinated with feeding our dogs "people food" and improving their nutritional intake/overall health. I currently feed a hybrid diet from toppls routinely every day to 3 of our dogs and am an advocate for canine enrichment. I prepare their food myself and follow a "balance over time" system.
I have so far completed raw feeding courses online in addition to puppy training, canine companionship, and muzzle training. I have been researching programs to further my education and am enrolled in courses that will hone my skills in training your dogs. I plan to pursue NAVC Pet Nutrition Coach Certification as well. I have done home evals in the past but will now be offering on site in person training at Country Road Dog Resort one day a week. We will be reaching out via social media prior to scheduling classes to get a feel for what is needed in the community.
I am forever learning, as the canine world is also always learning and evolving. I hope I can help, as everyone who knows me personally can vouch: this is my passion!!compassion.
